 I don't think it's fair to say that a company is "very little committed" to the MTB industry just because their bikes aren't built in the U.S. There's a reason why Transition is "rider owned for life" - there aren't that many owners/presidents/CEOs of bike companies that throw down like the guys at Transition. Not being a fan boy, but just trying to state a point that there's more to commitment in the bike scene than just where the bikes are built.

 I loved the rider owned for life tag and i dare bet it has sold a good few many bikes,but i'm sure at one point that rider owned trade mark also included the fact that they were sick of spending huge amounts of money on bikes,yet their bikes are now as expensive as all of the other mfrs.

 Trek makes all of their OCLV carbon bikes in Waterloo, Wisconsin.

 Different series numbers are indicative of a different alloy make-up. Aluminum is tremendously affected by alloying composition and heat treating...a T3 series can be treated to T6 hardness levels, but each alloy and its corresponding heat treatment offer a different set of physical properties such as: hardness, ultimate/yield strength, ductility, weldability, modulus of elasticity and so forth...when using them in design, sometimes it is critical that you use a "softer" alloy for ease of manufacturing and for improved fatigue life...if it is too stiff and hard to work it just ends up having a short life and being expensive. So, in saying all that, I would be willing to bet that the masters engineers at Devinci have chosen the materials that best suite their design requirements.

On a small side-bar; if all welders looked like that, I'd have absolutely no objection to paying TONS for custom frames, haha...but the Devinci Wilson and their line-up of bikes are sick factory bikes that are still made in north america!

 You can think about it that way, to make it simple :

6000 Series have plastic (more resilient) properties and 7000 Series have more Ceramic-like (less resilient) properties.
Their failure modes are also different.

Some 7000 Series won't require a heat treatment, wich lowers production costs.

 General rule: harder metals = more brittle

 6000 series is alloyed with mag and silicon, it's more easily forged and machined and hence used. 7000 series is alloyed with zinc, a bit harder and more difficult to work with. 7000 is somewhere around 20~30% more expensive in material cost alone, it is much stronger after heat-treat. When 7000 is used it's because the manufacturer can dial in the second heat treating cycle for a specific application (-T6, -T65, -T73) e.g. reduce the strength but make it resist fatigue cracking or make it strong and a bit more brittle!!

7000 is a much better material, but you end up paying for it!!

 My old Brodie Evolution is a 7000 series bike... 11 years of abuse and still going strong. A testament to the build quality of the bike.

 so I'm hearing the different series of aluminum provide different amounts of stiffness and depending on the heat treatment that can either make them brittle or malleable. But that the higher starting series aluminum you have the harder it is to work with, but its lighter and stiffer, which depending on the treatment isn't always an advantage for bikes, especially frames.

I assumed they weren't making awesome DH bikes out of shitty metal, but that makes more sense now thanks

 I cracked a weld on my 7005 aluminum chainstay

 At the end of the day, if you give any material abuse it will fail eventually, no matter how strong it is.

 Lets all go to cast iron frames.

 Yes, except some bike like exprezo all of the bikes are made in china. ( Trek,Giant,Norco,Marin, etc) Devinci make some bike for sure in there factory but only the expensive one.

Plus let's not forget that all the components (whitch count for a good portion of the price)are sweat-shop made, therefore the smaller, more passion driven companies (devinici, santacruz, rocky mountain...) are able to compete, in a north-american context. I think it's kinda sad in a way, the CAN/US biking industry represents many good jobs lost to cheaper-labor countries... We should be proud that Devinci still manages to make superb bikes anyway, and hope they stay from icitte!

 there are not many any more...Santa Cruz is off-shore (Taiwan), Rocky Mountain is also Taiwan, Cannondale is also Taiwan

in the USA, Ellsworth and Intense are left (although EW have their carbon frame made off-shore), and some small custom builders

 I think Santa Cruz does some of their fabrication in the US. Sapa? At least, a few years ago they did.

 Orange used to make all of their monocoque bikes in Halifax, UK. (Patriot, MsIsle, Sub-5, 222/3 etc). The run-of-the-mill looking bikes like the Gringo were Taiwan. Don't know if that's still the case though.

 from what I know, Orange make all their full suspension and monocoque hardtail frames in the UK

its their regular-tubed hardtail frames that are made "off shore" as there is not enough profit in those frames to justify making them in the UK

 We filmed the factory section at both Devinci and Shimano. The peeps at Devinci are amazing, so helpful and I absolutely love my Wilson, best DH bike I've ever ridden! We couldn't have pulled off the intro without them. -Gibb

 They really make the smoothest solutions to everything. The frames are amazing I'm never switching to another brand again.
But however the rear axle on the 08 frames are really shitty when you need to take your wheel off in a hurry :C I hope they have come up with a better solution for the new bike.

 What 08 devinci? My Wilson has the fastest and easiest rear axle setup that I've used with 12x150.

 Maxeponken : Turn the bike upside down and pull it out BACKWARDS instead of up like you would with old school 135 dropouts.....

 I have the problem when I try to pull the axle out. I unscrew the axle but when I try to pull it out it feels like it's stuck there. If I use a hammer and a allen key I can hammer it out carefully from the other side. anyone else having this problem?

 When it is unscrewed, there will be extra tension on the opposite side of the axle. With the bike upside down and standing behind it, wobble the wheel slightly to release the extra tension. Make sure that you are lubing the axle regularly. Philwood tenacious oil works really well.

 I found out the problem yesterday! It was not the frame it was my hub that had been slightly ovalized in one end causing the axle to "be stuck" there. New hub is on the way

 I am not sure the price for you guys in a different country would be, but here for the SL frame is $2600- $2800 CND.

 its so they can use larger tubes to make the frame stronger. Its not so much about the fork as it is about the frame.

 you should speak to the Devinci dealer (bike shop) you got your bike from....they are your first point of contact for any support

 the store tried working on it but couldn't find why there was some much play in the back end-so I called company to ask if they knew-the fellow i talked to was extremely unhelpful and argumentative.

the play in the rear end of the older FSR models is usually caused by several issues:

1. torque setting (critical as there is a "sweet spot" - too high and pivots bind, too low and pivot is loose)
2. worn needle roller bearings (quite rare)
3. worn bearing centre sleeve (the steel tube) - this is often the cause

 I believe only full suspension models are made in Canada.

 the suspension frames are all made in-house in their factory in Canada

the carbon fibre frames are made by an experienced "off shore" vendor

the aluminium hardtail frames are also made by a respected "off shore" vendor

it is too expensive to make hardtail frames domestically, as they sell at a much lower price than full suspension

the best carbon fibre frames come from Asia, where all the experience is found

 most likely a Giant factory for the the carbon experience

 it was time to move away from the older FSR suspension platform, and move forwards with the D.W. Split Pivot suspension system

the Dixon is the replacement trail / all mountain bike for the Hectik, and for 2012 there will be a Split Pivot freeride frame to replace the Frantik

the new Split Pivot bikes are superior ride in terms of suspension performance, geometry (low/slack) and frame ridigity, and ease of servicing

 Well, yeah but from a quick look at the specs, the Hectik seems more freeride-ish than the Dixon, plus it has 160mm of travel. When are the 2012 models gonna be announced?

 that is what I thought until I swapped my 2010 Hectik for a 2011 Dixon - the Dixon has 15mm less rear travel but a much more modern geometry, shorter chainstays and longer top tube with slack HA - with Fox 36 160mm mine was 65 degrees!

2012 models should be announced towards the end of the season?

 Ok thanks for the clarification. One last thing. How's the Dixon compared to Rune ?

 The Rune is a good ride, although the geometry is a little "old school", compared to the Dixon and with the shorter travel and more modern Banshee Spitfire (actually having a slacker HA and lower bottom bracket than Rune)

there have also been ongoing issues with the bushing / axle system, which means I could not recommend the Rune at present, which is a shame as I love Banshee bikes and have owned many of their fine bikes over the years

Banshee are working very hard to redesign the Rune with a modern geometry and ball bearing system, which should make it a killer rig to ride! not sure if this is for 2012 or perhaps 2013?
